Prime Minister visits White Sands Hotel & Spa

The Prime Minister of Cape Verde recently made an official visit to Boa Vista Island for three days of fact-finding around its latest public and private enterprises. Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva visited to variety of institutions, some still under construction, with the main aim of discovering their constraints, challenges and perspectives.

This is a new model of governance for the country, following last year’s election, in which the State plays a major role in these business partnerships, acting both as regulator and promoter of private initiative and civil society organisations.

The Prime Minister is keen to be a part of this process across all areas, “The Government are present in all the islands of the country, developing partnerships and defining solutions as City Councils and businessmen, sealing a great commitment of work towards the islands. And Boa Vista is able to develop a much stronger economy, occupying a prominent place in the development agenda of the country, with its own dynamics of economic growth and job creation.”

Part of the visit included a tour on Friday 2nd June of the quickly developing White Sands Hotel & Spa at Santa Monica beach. Representing the archipelago’s government at the event was Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia Silva, Minister of Infrastructures, Land Planning and Housing, Eunice Andrade da Silva Spencer Lopes and Minister of Internal Affairs, Paulo Rocha. Also in attendance was CEO of Cape Verde Investment, Ana Barber and for a local perspective, Mayor of the City Hall of Boa Vista, Mr. José Luis dos Santos.

CEO of The Resort Group PLC, Rob Jarrett, led the tour group, showing them just how much the development has progressed in the last few months. In particular, the commercial elements of the Resort, which have evolved exceptionally quickly as more construction focused on Boa Vista following the completion of MELIÃ Llana Beach Resort & Spa and the University of Cabo Verde. This is an essential part of such a large Resort, with 835 luxurious properties, including duplex and penthouse hotel suites and a range of private villas, there will be a variety of high quality facilities available to our 5-star guests.
