Staff Spotlight: Esther Montoro
Marking 10 years since The Resort Group was established, we have been speaking to members of the team to find out more about our operational Resorts and the part they play in making them as popular as they are. This week it is the turn of Hotel Manager, Esther Montoro, as she gives a sneak peek behind the scenes at our exclusive adults-only Resorts.
1. What is your name and job title?
Esther Montoro, I am the Hotel Manager for the MELIÃ Llana Beach Resort & Spa and the TUI SENSIMAR Cabo Verde Resort.
2. Take us through an average day
Hotel General Managers ensure that guests are comfortable and satisfied. They oversee the other hotel staffers, such as janitors and human resources personnel, and are responsible for the overall functioning of the establishment.
As a Resort manager, my job includes managing all segments of the Resort, including lodging, food and beverage management, human resources, housekeeping, entertainment, and guest services. I am in charge of employees, finances, customer service, promotions, and quality control.
Running a hotel comes with a variety of responsibilities. In this role, I am responsible for the day-to-day management, as well as commercial accountability for budgeting and financial management, planning, organising and directing all hotel services. That includes front-of-house (reception, guest services, reservations), food and beverage operations, and housekeeping. While taking a strategic overview and planning ahead to maximize profits, I must also pay attention to the details, setting the example for staff to deliver a standard of service and presentation that meets guests’ needs and expectations. Business and people management are equally important elements.
3. How long have you worked at the Resort?
I’ve been working here for one year now.
4. What did you do before you worked at the Resort?
I did three hotel re-brandings in the year before I joined the team here in Cape Verde. It is a process that helps optimise the Resort to best meet our guests’ needs and it prepared me very well for my position here.
5. What do you love most about your job?
It is my absolute passion, I wouldn’t want to work in any other industry.
6. What kind of thing do customers ask you to help with?
To choose their next vacations, which is a huge compliment as they trust us and our recommendations. I think it says a lot of the quality of the service we provide.
7. What is the one thing you think people should always bring to Cape Verde?
Be prepared for total relaxation and, on a practical note, bring any medicine you might need.
8. How has The Resort Group helped the Island?
They have helped the Island develop into a luxury destination and, therefore, brought with them a great deal of employment opportunities.
9. What would you like to say people who are thinking of coming to Cape Verde?
They are discovering the new Caribbean…
