10 Years of The Resort Group: Favourite Memories
With 10 years of Resort success and experience under our belts, The Resort Group is proud to be celebrating their first decade with a series of blogs highlighting this milestone. We have looked back at 10 years of a changing Cape Verde and spoken to members of staff about their experience but now we cast the net further afield. We have tracked down team members from the early days of the Group to find out what their favourite memory is over The Resort Group’s history.
Opening MELIÃ Llana Beach Resort & Spa was a very special moment. To have completed all of our projects in Sal and having five branded resorts fully operational was a real milestone for the Group, taking us to a whole new level.

My favourite moment was the opening of MELIÃ Tortuga Beach Resort, the first of many to come. On that same trip to Cape Verde, I can remember visiting Dunas before construction had even begun, I have watched it develop into the largest Resort in West Africa. What we have achieved over the last 10 years is incredible, way beyond our original business plans. The high standard of what we deliver is also something to be very proud of.

My favourite moment with The Resort Group was the opening of the amazing Bikini Beach, which completed our build programme on the Island of Sal. It complements the Resorts so well and I truly believe this is a brand that will be rolled out across other jurisdictions given the positive feedback we have received so far in terms of food, service and ambience. I have been with The Resort Group since 2007 and have had the opportunity to not only watch our Resorts being built but to see the positive impact that this has had on tourism for the islands, and how it has contributed to the economic growth with the creation of thousands of jobs for the Cape Verdean community. When I first started working with the Group, no one had ever heard of Cape Verde, however now it is one of the top destinations of choice on everyone’s bucket list, which I think is just fantastic.

My favourite moment with The Resort Group was my first trip to Cape Verde. When I landed on the island of Sal I could not believe how beautiful the island was and having stood on the empty land on which MELIÃ Tortuga Beach Resort, MELIÃ Dunas Beach Resort & Spa and MELIÃ Llana Beach Resort & Spa are now built is an incredible feeling. To know I have seen it grow from the beginning, I am so proud to be a part of it. The Resort Group allowed me to experience flying for the first time as Cape Verde was the first destination I had ever travelled too and what a great place to have taken my first ever flight!

Walking into our first Bikini Beach Club was definitely one of my favourite moments so far. It has a totally unique setting and represents a new and exciting venture for the Group. Having been involved in the initial designs and the marketing concepts, it was great to see how it all came together when it was launched.

After ten years of working here there are many, but walking onto MELIÃ Dunas Beach Resort & Spa for the first time, I was taken aback by the sheer size of the Resort. The management here awarded me a week’s holiday on MELIÃ Tortuga Beach Resort with my husband. It had not been open long, I was chatting to a few of the owners and I was walking up the beach having a look at the construction on the land called Dunas. The villa plots looked massive and I knew it was going to be impressive.
