Fantcha performs at Cabo Verde festival

Raj’d artist Fantcha recently performed on the first day of the famous Baía das Gatas festival in São Vicente, Cabo Verde.

The music festival has become a cultural institution for the Islands and traditionally takes place in August during the three days of a ‘full moon weekend’. Held since 1984, the event has expanded every year, with artists now flying in from around the world. This year’s festival opened with Vasco Martins, and also featured artists such as Lura and Jacqueline Fortes.

The incredibly exciting event is for perfect for local artists to take part in as thousands descend on the small village for three days of beautiful African-inspired music. Fantcha herself commented, “The show was amazing. I had an opportunity to talk about the release of the album in December on stage, which everyone was excited about, and I got a complement from the President of Cabo Verde.”

It was a fantastic opportunity for Fantcha, who was signed to record label Raj’d in 2015. The album launching in December will commemorate renowned Cabo Verdean signer Cesária Évora – a much-beloved artist in the country and one their most famous exports. She will be performing a selection of songs from her new album at the opening ceremony of the Llana Beach Hotel in early December, before the hotel officially opens its doors on 18th December.
