Olympic Swimming Pool to open on Sal

Just under a year ago, The Resort Group PLC was proud to open the Acadêmico Football School at a ceremony that marked a new beginning for sport on the Island. The event, which took place on 15th July at the stadium itself, also included a tour and a musical performance by local artists.

The synthetic grass field, large auditorium and multipurpose hall included in the Academy, alongside the Group’s sponsorship of the local football team, have contributed significantly to the sustainability project focused on Sal’s capital, Espargos. It was the first venture for CEO and Founder, Rob Jarrett, and it has proven not to be the last.

Two new expansion projects are now in construction, one of which will see a semi-Olympic pool formed of 6 tracks and the other with 5 tracks. The plans also include accommodation for 30 athletes, including two suites, a bar and a restaurant.

The launching of the first stone took place on June 23 with important figures from Cape Verde’s government taking part. After which, the dignitaries and guests made their way to the Football School’s auditorium for speeches by the Minister of Sport, Elisio Freire; the Mayor of Sal, Júlio Lopes; and Carlos Moniz, President of the Academy. Local news followed the story as an exciting new development in sport for Sal Island and captured the first stone being laid as well as the ceremony.

The Resort Group PLC is committed to its involvement in the project, with three years of guaranteed financial support in its position as an important Sponsor of the Academy.
