Our Award Winning Legacy
When Rob Jarrett established The Resort Group PLC in 2007, he did so with the aim of making the most of Cape Verde’s natural beauty. He knew it was a tourist destination worth putting on the map. And, in 2009, he got the opportunity to do just that –The Resort Group PLC secured an agreement with MELIÃ Hotels International to manage their Resorts on Sal.
It has been a decade since then and The Resort Group PLC has climbed to new heights as an award-winning developer, transforming Cape Verde’s tourism industry as it does so. Our legacy is filled with awards and we are proud of each one of them.
MELIÃ Tortuga Beach Resort & Spa
This, our first Resort, has been judged Cape Verde’s Leading Hotel by the World Travel Awards for a stunning five years. It’s the guests’ first choice as well, winning the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence in 2013 and the TUI Family Champion Award in 2018 for being the very best family hotel.
MELIÃ Dunas Beach Resort & Spa and Sol Dunas
This is the largest holiday Resort on the African continent, cementing The Resort Group PLC’s reputation as an award-winning developer. At the Hotel of the Year Awards in 2015, it picked up Best Lifestyle Resort Worldwide and Best Hotel in Cape Verde, as well as ranking seventh in the Top 30 Hotel Resorts globally.
The Resort was also singled out at the Luxury Travel Guide Awards 2017/2018, winning Luxury Beach Front Hotel – Cape Verde and a Special Double Winners Badge, which is awarded to those few hotels that win across two years. And that’s not all – it won the Travelife Award 2018, which means it features in the Travelife Collection as part of a group of certified hotels that strive to conserve their surroundings.
MELIÃ Llana Beach Resort & Spa and TUI Sensimar Cabo Verde
As an award-winning developer, The Resort Group PLC has only created Resorts that guests love. TUI Sensimar Cabo Verde was recently voted Number 1 on TripAdvisor and, in 2018, was awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
MELIÃ Llana Beach Resort & Spa is no less adored – it picked up the TUI Top Quality Award in 2018, a prestigious award given to hotels in the TUI family that are considered favourites by guests.
Bikini Beach Club
Offering all the comforts and extravagance you’d expect of the best beach clubs in the world, it’s no surprise that Bikini Beach Club has been praised by The World’s Finest Clubs. It’s a seal of approval that takes into account atmosphere, service and the ‘it’ factor.
Working together for new heights
But perhaps our most beloved honour came in 2015 when our CEO, Rob Jarrett, received the Second Merit Medal which is the highest honour that can be presented to a civilian. This medal was awarded by the Municipality of Sal in Cape Verde and is a public acknowledgement of The Resort Group PLC’s contribution to the country’s tourism industry.
To be an award-winning developer, you have to recognise that it isn’t just you in the game. Rob Jarrett displayed that knowledge when he commented on his award: “It’s a privilege to see the impact The Resort Group has made on tourism and therefore the country’s economy. We have had our fair share of challenges but I have an excellent support network of employees and partners who work tirelessly to make our Resorts the best they can be. […] And of course the Cape Verde government, which is always highly cooperative and complimentary.”
Since The Resort Group’s presence in Cape Verde, tourism has boomed and the company now accounts for 4% of the country’s GDP. And it’s not efforts that have gone unnoticed.
The former Cape Verde Prime Minister, Jose Maria Neves, said: “Allow me to congratulate The Resort Group […] above all, for its cooperation, attitude and approach, and for the permanent search for shared solutions so that we can continue to grow.” Ultimately, a symbiotic relationship that takes both company and country to new heights.
